August 20, 2019
7:00 PM
Reagan Community Center
Mayor Kristine L. Hill called the Regular Meeting of the Tampico Village Council to order at 7:00PM.
Commissioners Jim Coleman, Al Wildman, Ryan DeBrock and Tammy Kendell were present. Police Chief Terry Strike, Officer Will Lukehart and assistant Clerk Jamie McIntire were also present. Village Clerk, Kathy Leathers, recorded the written and audio minutes.
Mayor Hill led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes of the August 6, 2019 Regular Meeting were approved as presented.
Reports of Village Officials
Mayor Hill advised that Village Utilities Clerk, Anna Wetzell, will be mailing out for the Water Department (required by the IEPA) a Cross Connection Control Survey. This has been done for years. If anyone has any questions please contact Village Hall.
Commissioner DeBrock had a question about the skate board ramps at Booth Park. It’s been noticed that one of the benches in that area is really close to one of the ramps. Can that be moved for safety purposes? Mayor Hill said yes, that has been discussed with Bruce Hill and he plans on taking care of that. Mayor Hill added that there was also a picnic table broken at Booth Park. It has been removed from the park and will try to be fixed.
Remarks from Guests
There were no remarks from guests at this time.
Unfinished Business
Commissioner Coleman advised that he met with the Miller Company and State Inspectors and everything is moving along smoothly with the Water Main Replacement Project. Coleman said I was approached by some residents with concerns of having rusty water. The State Inspector assured me that it has nothing to do with their construction on the project. Coleman said I spoke with Superintendent Pierce about it and he is going to look into it further. Commissioner Kendell asked as Miller moves from street to street, do they plan on restoring everyone’s yard prior to the season being over? Mayor Hill said it will probably end up sitting and they’ll do their grooming next year. Typically that isn’t done until the job is done.
Commissioner Coleman advised that there was a tote donated by Robert Miller for the E-Recycling. Currently it’s sitting outside next to the trailer that holds all the items brought it. It can be used as a drop off point for after hours when people cannot put their E-Recycled items in the trailer, rather then having them sit out exposed by the trailer. Mayor Hill said we are getting close to needing to empty the E-Recycling trailer again. I received an email from Whiteside County that they’ll be coming around soon, so now that we work with Prophetstown we’ll have to get our stuff over there for it.
Commissioner Coleman also informed the Council that the new Ordinance O02-19-07-02 Chapter 8 Dangerous Buildings, that the Council passed, there has already been one abandoned property bought and the plans are to tare it down. Mayor Hill asked for an update for the fire house in town. Officer Lukehart said that it’s stuck in litigation, so the Village can’t currently do anything about it.
New Business
There was no New Business to discuss at this time.
Building Permits issued by Zoning Administrator, Ron Kuepker, were 306 N. Main – Storage Building, 307 N. Joy – Roof, 205 S. Lincoln – Roof, and 106 W. Glassburn – Enclosed Porch.
Communications
Mayor Hill informed that Sauk Valley Community College has a new program that they’re working on with the Tri-County region. If children in this region in 8th grade an up do 25 hours of public service and hold a certain grade point average, they will receive free tuition at Sauk Valley Community College. That is a great incentive for people to move to this area. Mayor Hill said I did pass this information on to one of our school teachers so she could present it to the school board.
Bills were ordered paid on a motion by Commissioner DeBrock with a second by Commissioner Kendell. “Yes” votes were Coleman, Wildman, DeBrock, Kendell and Mayor Hill. The motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 7:10 PM. The next Regular Meeting of the Tampico Village Council will be Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 7:00 PM in the Reagan Community Center located at 202 W. Second Street.
