Mayor Bruce Peltier called the Regular Meeting of the Tampico Village Council to order at 7:00PM.
Commissioners Sherry Coleman, Susan Dean, Ryan DeBrock and Tammy Kendell were present. Police Chief Strike and Village Public Works Superintendent, Tyler Chriest, were also present. Village Clerk, Jamie McIntire, was present and recorded the written and audio minutes.
Mayor Peltier led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes of the July 18, 2023 Regular Meeting were approved as presented.
Reports of Village Officials
Commissioner Kendell asked Chriest if he spoke with Sigel about the sidewalk issue. Chriest advised that he spoke with Sigel last week and he’s still waiting to hear back from the individual he reached out to.
Mayor Peltier advised that he spoke with Matt Hansen, and they are set to meet either the first or second week in August about the award scheduled to come out for the grant for the second phase of the sewer relining project.
Mayor Peltier and Hansen will also meet to talk about the grant awarded for the lead service line connections.
Mayor Peltier advised that Hansen has another grant that he’d like to speak with him about for emerging contaminants. There’s quite a bit of money for that and 75% of the project is forgiven so Mayor Peltier would like to hear more details. Mayor Peltier will inform the Council when he plans to meet with Hansen so anyone who’s free can join if they wish.
Commissioner DeBrock asked how the new equipment is working out that was purchased for the lift stations. Chriest advised that it’s working well at the Market Street lift station, but there are a few more items being waited on for the Kimball Street lift station. Commissioner Kendell asked how often the lift station needs cleaned with the new equipment. Chriest advised it’s around 3 weeks to a month. Chriest said that Kimball Street may be more frequent, but maybe not. The equipment is working well.

Approved building permits are 208 N. Washington – Roof, 212 S. Benton – Windows and 212 N. Main – Rebuild Deck.
Communications
Clerk McIntire advised that any specific notes for their department that the Commissioners want added to the updated Village Newsletter can be submitted to the Village office. Then a letter can be drafted, reviewed and decided when to send it out. Commissioner DeBrock suggested adding the updated non-emergency number for Village Police once that all gets straightened out. Clerk McIntire advised that she’s waiting to hear back from Frontier to see if a land line in the police department office would be better than having a cell phone through U.S. Cellular.
Commissioner DeBrock also suggested adding to the newsletter the rules for golf carts in the Village, specifically that golf carts are not to be driven down Main Street (Route 172). That is considered a crossable road and not to be driven down.
Bills were ordered paid on a motion by Commissioner Kendell, second by Commissioner Dean. Clerk McIntire advised that there was a large bill for the FY23 Audit in this group of bills. There may be one more bill for them, but the audit is close to being complete. Commissioner Kendell asked if we signed on for so many years with this audit firm. Clerk McIntire thought maybe two years. Kendell asked if we should get quotes from other audit firms when it comes time due to the cost. Clerk McIntire said it would be worth looking into because of the cost. “Yes” votes were Coleman, Dean, DeBrock, Kendell and Mayor Peltier. The motion carried.
Commissioner DeBrock thanked Chief Strike and the rest of the police department for a smooth Tampico Days weekend. Mayor Peltier and the Council agreed. Commissioner Dean added that it’s nice to see a police presence in the Village. It’s very appreciated.
The meeting adjourned at 7:14 PM. The next Regular Meeting of the Tampico Village Council is Scheduled for Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 7:00 PM in the Reagan Community Center located at 202 W. Second Street.
