BUILDING PERMITS

For fence regulations, see below. If a building or fence permit is not obtained before the start or completion of the project, the permit fee shall be doubled.
NUISANCE CONSIDERATIONS/ABANDONED MOTOR VEHICLES
In an effort to encourage residents to take pride in the community, an updated Nuisance Ordinance was approved on August 16, 2011. In essence, accumulating trash such as discarded household furniture, appliances, unused building materials, tires, any unused, stripped, junked, wrecked, or otherwise inoperable motor vehicle or any implement, machinery, equipment or other personal property of any kind which is no longer safely operable or usable. Verbal and written warnings that suggest compliance will be given before the nuisance will be considered a violation of the ordinance and subject to a fine. If you are unsure what is considered a nuisance and what is not, copies may be obtained from the Clerk’s office in Tampico Village Hall.
NEW RESIDENTS/VOTER REGISTRATION
To register to vote or change your name or street address, contact Tampico Village Hall at 438-2505 for information. Two forms of identification showing your current street address are required.
ATTENTION DOG & CAT OWNERS
It is unlawful to operate a dog or cat kennel in or about any premises, building, structure, or portions thereof occupied by one family within the Village. The keeping or harboring of four or more dogs or four or more cats over the age of three (3) months in such kennel as described in the ordinance is declared a public nuisance.
It is unlawful to allow a dog to run at large within the village limits.
SWIMMING POOLS
Fencing and door/gate latch requirements exist for swimming pools in the Village limits. Contact the Zoning Administrator or Village Hall to discuss details before installation.
FENCES, WALLS, HEDGES & SHRUBS
Contact Tampico Village Hall at 815-438-2505 before erecting a fence, wall, hedge or shrubs. Permission must be granted by the Village Council before citizens erecting such items within the Village limits. A fee must be paid and a permit issued. If a permit is not obtained before the start or completion of a fence project, the permit fee shall be doubled.
BURN BARRELS, RECREATION FIRES, YARD WASTE BURNING
Burning of leaves or yard waste is permitted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sundays only when conditions are favorable, i.e. not too dry, not too windy, and so as not to endanger others. Burn barrels and the burning of trash, construction material scraps, tires or other items that give off a noxious odor shall be prohibited. The use of fire to cook food and recreational fires will be allowed if they are contained in a structure made for said purpose or a manufactured receptacle such as a barbeque grill or metal fire pit/container. There shall be NO BURNING OF ANY KIND from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Halloween Day, October 31st.
EMERGENCY SIREN WARNING
The Village’s Emergency Siren will be tested the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 AM from March through October. This siren will be used in the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency.
CALL J.U.L.I.E. BEFORE YOU DIG
Prior to digging/excavating, you MUST call J.U.L.I.E. (Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators) at 1-800-892-0123. They will notify the various utility companies to come out to check for buried utilities at your property.
CHECK THE ZONING REQUIREMENTS FOR YOUR PROPERTY
If you operate a small business (beauty shop, wood/craft work shop, small engine repair, child care, or similar type business), contact the Zoning Administrator to see if your property, whether owned by you or rented by you, is properly zoned for such a business.
