OF THE VILLAGE OF TAMPICO
Monday, January 27, 2014
The Special Meeting of the Mayor and Council of the Village of Tampico was called to order at 6:30 PM by Mayor Kristine L. Hill.
Commissioners Toby Johnson, Bruce Hill and Derrick Maupin were present. Commissioner Mary Jo Sigel was absent. Clerk Leathers recorded the written minutes.
Realtor, Wes Anderson, was also present.
Mayor Hill advised council members of an offer Anderson has received on the surplus village owned real estate located at 126 S. Main Street. Anderson advised the offer for the “as is” building is for $8,000.00. The offer is above the 80% appraisal value the Village must have for the sale.
On a motion by Commissioner Maupin, second by Commissioner Hill, Ordinance No. O07-14-01-27, Authorizing the Sale of Municipally Owned Real Estate, was approved. “Yes” votes were Johnson, Hill, Maupin and Mayor Hill. The motion carried. The ordinance authorizes Mayor Hill and Village Clerk Leathers to sign the necessary paperwork for the sale. The proper paperwork was signed and will be forwarded to Village Attorney, William Shirk, for the final closing of the deal.
Mayor Hill next reported to the Council on the goals and grant funding possibilities for the Safe Routes to School Program. The mayor stated the program includes grant funding to replace / repair sidewalks to encourage school students to walk or ride their bikes to school. Village Engineers, Willett, Hofmann and Associates, Inc., have completed initial estimates and a scope of the project. Mayor Hill said right now the cost to repair / replace sidewalks on the Northwest corner of the intersection of Main St. and along W. Market St. to the alley, the Northeast corner of the intersection of Main St. and E. Market St. to the alley by the Fire Department and the sidewalks on S. Fremont St. from East Market St. south to East Kimball St. Mayor Hill stated the initial cost of the project could come in at around $200,000.00. She said adjustments will be made as the project is reviewed. It that should be the case, Grant funding would cover $160,000.00 or 80% of that cost. Community Funding & Planning Services will be helping the Village secure the grant funding. Mayor Hill advised the remaining funds could possibly come from future Motor Fuel Tax Fund Monies. Area legislators have sent letters of recommendation to the grant administrators on the Village’s behalf. The project could be implemented as soon as 2015.
The meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM. The next Regular Meeting of the Tampico Village Council will be Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 7:00PM in Tampico Village Hall.
